bristol airport – Departures
We love a challenge and when our client approached us about this feature tree for Bristol Airport we were very excited. Working from their outline Sketch-up model, with the brief that the tree needed to be as organic as possible, feel light weight but be strong enough for an airport environment and provide some seating.
We started work on prototyping a way of making the branches and fully modeled the tree on CAD exactly as it would be manufactured. We could then check branch heights would not be too low and that they would look great together.
Produced from CNC cut templates which we formed laminated birch plywood strips around to get the complex shapes. This also resulting in strong branches. The branches were fixed to the ceiling with bespoke powder coated fixing clamps coloured to suit the printed graphic ceiling image. We don’t cut the corners here at Reynolds Collcutt! This fixing detail is so small but when you add small details together they make a big difference.
A unique feature like this adds ambiance and interest to a space and improves the travelers experience.
